EMDR

EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

You might have heard of EMDR as a therapy, but you’re unsure what it means. To begin with, EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and it’s an integrative therapy used specifically for clients who have experienced trauma and many other mental health issues. It has been proven very effective in dealing with these conditions.

How EMDR works

EMDR works to process the experiences causing issues while also including new ones needed for full health.

EMDR works by processing the experience that’s causing distress and reducing the negative impacts of the events from a physiological level. This allows you to deal with the emotions and move through the healing process that comes as a result.

The treatment uses a combination of eye movements, tones and taps, which help to “unfreeze” particular moments in time that are causing the client to feel distressed, upset and even reliving the moment in incredible detail. While it doesn’t completely remove the memory, it does help the client by creating a corrective emotional experience.

Not every client requires EMDR therapy. Its use is based on every client’s needs and depends on their specific symptoms and timelines.
